Yosemite: Mac OS X 10.10 Compatibility Information

OS X Yosemite logo

Apple has released version 10.10 of Mac OS X, titled Yosemite. Whenever a new operating system is released, we start gathering as much information as we can as to how your current software and hardware will interact with the new OS. While some companies stay ahead of the game and resolve any issues right away, others may take a while longer.

In order to avoid any problems that may arise when you update to the newest Mac OS, we recommend you proceed with caution and do some research about the compatibility between the software and hardware you rely on every day and Yosemite. Below you’ll find a list of compatibility news related to Mac OS X 10.10. We’ll be updating this list with the most recent information as soon as we learn of it. If you don’t see your software or hardware here, check back in a short while to see if it’s been added.

If you have any questions, feel free to contact us here.

Current Compatibility News:

Ableton

Ableton has announced that Live 9.1.5 or higher is compatible with Yosemite. Also compatible is the latest version of Max for Live (6.1.9).

They have also stated that since Live 8 is a legacy version, there are no plans to update it further and is not officially tested or supported on Yosemite (although it may run). If you choose to use Live 8 with Yosemite, you do so on your own accord.

There are some known issues with the use of 32-bit VST plug-ins concerning the GUI of the affected plug-in. For more information, see Ableton’s Yosemite Compatibility statement here.

AKAI

AKAI has released Yosemite-specific drivers for their products. You can find the drivers on the product page for your product at AKAI’s website.

Allen & Heath

Here is Allen & Heath’s current statement on Yosemite:

In anticipation of the launch of Apple’s latest update to the Mac OS X Operating System (10.10 ‘Yosemite’), please note the following:

The correct operation of the full, public release of this platform is not yet verified by our development and test departments. As a result, support for OS X Yosemite is not currently offered for Allen & Heath digital hardware, software applications, or third-party proprietary software used with our product ranges.

We cannot confirm a date for providing support for this platform at present, but note that full software testing and verification will commence following the official launch by Apple.

As our test programmes are completed we will update this notice.

We hope this helps.

Cakewalk (updated 2/13/15)

Cakewalk has outlined their support for Yosemite:

Notice: Security update 2015-001 included in the 10.10.2 update introduced compatibility issues with Z3TA+ 2 and the CA-2A T-Type Leveling Amplifier. Cakewalk is aware of these issues and is working to find solutions. Compatibility for 10.9 Mavericks and 10.8 Mountain Lion is also affected since this security update was released for these operating systems.

  • If possible, Cakewalk recommends waiting to install security update 2015-001 until a solution is released. If the security update has already been installed, restore your Mac to a point before it was installed using backup software like Apple’s Time Machine.

The following list outlines compatibility between Cakewalk instruments and audio effects when running on Mac OS X Yosemite 10.10.1:

  • Z3TA+ 2.1.1 is fully compatible with all major DAWs running on Yosemite except GarageBand.
  • The CA-2A T-Type Leveling Amplifier is compatible with Logic X, Cubase and several other hosts. There are known issues with Live 9, Digital Performer 8 and GarageBand that we are currently working to resolve.
  • The RE-2A Leveling Amplifier is fully compatible with Yosemite and Reason 8.
  • Dimension Pro, Rapture and Studio Instruments are not compatible with Yosemite, please see this Knowledge Base article for more information.

  • Pinch to zoom may be slower, especially in Scroll View
  • When changing between tools with a dedicated menu (Staff tool, Expression tool, Chord Tool, etc.), the menu bar may not update right away. Redrawing the screen (COMMAND+D) will fix this.
  • Users may encounter a warning that Java Runtime must be installed when launching notation programs for the first time. Java will be automatically downloaded to your computer and the program should open correctly afterwards.

Older software will not be supported. For the full statement from Make Music, please see this article.

Serato

A message from Serato:

We don’t anticipate any issues with Serato software and OS X 10.10, but we won’t be able to officially support it until we can complete full and proper testing. As we haven’t been able to start this testing until the full public version was released, official support will not be immediate. We are unable to give a timeframe for official support at this time.

Since the Serato DJ 1.7.2 beta is now available, we’d really be keen to hear from anyone running the Serato DJ 1.7.2 on Yosemite OS X 10.10. Our initial tests have been successful so far, and we’d like to announce full support with the final release of 1.7.2.

If you are seeing any issues that seem specific to Yosemite when using the Serato DJ 1.7.2 beta, please post your findings or feedback in the 1.7.2 Beta area

We are happy for users to test our software on OS X 10.10 but suggest it not be used in performance situations until we are certain of its reliability.
