In the run-up to its annual $1 summer flip-flop sale on June 28, Old Navy has been dispensing free flips from vending machines in locations around New York and Los Angeles.
During the promotion period (24-26 June), people wishing to obtain free flip flops had to locate one of the nine flip flop vending machines in the New York or Los Angeles area whose locations were announced via @OldNavy on Twitter.
For example, Old Navy tweeted the location of a vending machine at Paradise Cover as follows:
#FlipFlopHooray Day here @ #ParadiseCove! @OldNavy giving away FREE #FlipFlops 2 those @ vending Machines who tweet 1st!! Now til none left!
Once they arrived at the location, participants had to follow the instructions on the vending machine to tweet a message with the required contents. Tweets could be made from mobile devices or by using the tablet provided by Old Navy.
After confirmation of the tweet by an on-site representative, participants in the promotion selected a pair of flip flops from the contents of the vending machine. While supplies lasted, the machine dispensed flip fops which had an approximate retail value of $2.50.
