Public Lab is a collaborative effort to do two distinct things: a) develop new, open source tools to measure pollution, and b) hold polluters accountable through grassroots data collection. This talk will discuss the challenges we’ve faced in creating a community with very diverse backgrounds around these goals, and the strategies we’ve used to keep this complex work open and participatory in the context of a few interesting open source hardware/software projects.
