Tommy Hilfiger inspires aspiring designers

International designer Tommy Hilfiger paid a visit to the National Institute of Fashion Technology on Friday to deliver a speech to the students there. Aspiring fashionistas and designers were given advice about building a business in today’s global economy.

He shared his expertise from over 40 years in the fashion industry and also spoke about his experiences in growing his namesake brand into a global lifestyle business.

Mr. Hilfiger has a long history of guidance and mentorship and has visited schools globally to speak with the next generation of designers, including Central Saint Martins in London, Parsons in New York, and Institut Francais de la Mode in Paris.

Mr. Hilfiger also visited campuses on Milan, Madrid, Tel Aviv, Istanbul and Boston, among others, to meet with and provide mentorship to aspiring design talent.

The Central Board of Secondary Education has announced that it will hold the fifth edition of the Student Global Aptitude Index (SGAI) in November for students of Class X in schools affiliated with the Board across the globe.

The test is an optional activity meant for Class X students. The assessment facilitates the students in knowing their aptitude and interests, which will assist them in making realistic decisions while choosing subjects in Class XI.

Registration for the SGAI has already begun and will continue till October 15. Schools can register online after depositing a fee of Rs.100 per student with the regional offices.

Further communication will be made directly by the Board with the participating schools.

Sparsh, the Social Development Cell of Indian Institute of Management, Rohtak, organised a two-day awareness campaign on the theme “Sanitation, Public Hygiene and Waste Management” in three villages of Haryana. The drive, that will take place throughout the coming month, is an attempt to support the “Swachh Bharat Mission” currently being undertaken by the Government.

The first day of the campaign was focused on the students of a government school in the village of Majra, which has a population of 12,000 people. The students from the institute organised drawing competitions for children of Classes I to V on the themes of environmental cleanliness and hygiene.

The second day saw action at government schools in the villages of Kheri Sadh and Garhi Bohar. There, too, school children showcased their talents with drawings on the themes of cleanliness.

Prizes were distributed to students with the best drawings and speeches. Awareness campaigns were also held for women that focused on personal hygiene.
