People are starting to recognize the central role the startups play in job growth," said Case.One of the stops on the startup crawl Wednesday morning was Dwolla, a fast growing e-commerce company started here in Des Moines that provides online and mobile payments."We are a part of that. We are not just an Iowa-based company. We have offices in New York and San Francisco," said Ben Milne of Dwolla.Lt. Gov. Kim Reynolds met with Case and said the road trip is proof positive that startups can not only be successful in Iowa, but those business can also thrive here."I am really excited about the entrepreneurial ecosystem that we are seeing across the state and we have really seen that grow and explode over the last four years," said Reynolds.That is why Case and the tour made a stop in Iowa.Case said today is just a start. He said it is important to shine a spotlight on startups that is bright enough for the entire country to see."If we are going to remain the most innovative entrepreneurial nation in the world, we need to get back our entrepreneurs everywhere not just on the coast," said Case.The tour continues Thursday and Friday with stops in Kansas City and St. Louis. There is a pitch competition at each stop with the winner earning a $100,000 investment from Case.
