New Yorkers are big fans of drinking and dining on the waterfront—hell, with boat bars, we can drink and dine directly on the water. The latest of these floating spots is Fish Bar, a three-story lounge and restaurant joining the seaborne lobster shack North River Lobster Company on Pier 81.
Set aboard a renovated 10,000-square-foot yacht, the restaurant is nautically rigged with hammered brass bars, upholstered banquettes and semi-private outdoor cabins, as well as an outdoor top deck for taking in the skyline and sunset. Its food menu is, fittingly, fixed on seafood: Dover sole crudo garnished with pickled peppers; Plymouth Rock oysters crusted in cornmeal and sriracha-lime butter; and pan-seared red mullet with micro greens and garlic jus.
Cocktails are of the farm-to-table sort, or more like roof-to-table—herbs like rosemary and mint from North River Landing's rooftop garden are employed in the bar's drinks, which include stir-ups like a Figenza Sour frothed with egg whites and freshened with lime juice. There's also a dedicated beer-and-bubbly bar, featuring more than 20 craft beers and 26 varieties of champagne.
