CLEVELAND– The Blue Angels gave Northeast Ohio a preview of what we can expect this Labor Day weekend, during a unique photo shoot with Cleveland’s city skyline serving as a backdrop Wednesday afternoon.

Organizers of the 2014 Cleveland National Air Show are promising this year will be bigger and better than past years, with fans already fueling the excitement.

Cleveland’s National Air Show Executive Director Chuck Newcomb said, “Ticket sales are up and calls and people. It’s really spectacular. People miss the air show, really in the 40 years that I’ve been associated with the show.”

The Blue Angels, and other pilots, are making their return to Northeast Ohio this year, after the show was cancelled last year due to federal budget cuts.

Thousands are expected to witness the four-and-a-half-hour show from Burke Lakefront Airport. The show is Saturday, Sunday and Monday.

Organizers are urging families to come early, as parking could be tricky.

“The gates open at 9 o’clock; flying starts about 10:30. There’s parking at Burke Lakefront on the west end of the facility. In fact, it’s been expanded this year. We can probably park an additional thousand cars,” said Newcomb.

There will be food, bands and exhibits. The big attraction is also expected to give our area an economic boost, to the tune of millions of dollars.

Richard Kropinak of Garfield Heights is a veteran spectator and will be back this year.

He said, “They always give contrails when they’re flying in unison, so that you can tell each plane from the other; any of that would be spectacular.”

Tickets for adults are $23, kids $16.
