Chapchas (chap·chaz) are one of the most unique rattles in the world. Originating in the Andes, they are made from the toenails of goats or sheep threaded onto a piece of fabric that resembles a bracelet. They are often heard in the folk music of South America, especially from Peru, Bolivia, Ecuador and Chile.
This activity shares the history of the instrument, how they are made, how they are played and also a make-your-own craft that creates a similar “jingling thing” bracelet.
