Whether your dog is a Million Miler or a novice air traveler, there are a few essentials that will keep pup—and you—happy. With the help of Capree Kimball, managing editor of DogMilk.com, we've rounded up our ten must-pack carry-on items that will make traveling with your four-legged friend a success.

1. **A copy of your pet's up-to-date vaccination records **and a health certificate from your vet are a must. Also, be sure to research vets in your destination city and have that information handy just in case.

2. An extra leash, extra collar (or harness), and extra ID tags. (Pictured: rope leash in "pond" by Blink, black rope collar by Found My Animal, "Wink" and "Diamond" tags from blanketID.)

3. **Poop bags. **Lots of poop bags. Don't get stuck trying to scoop up after your dog with nothing but a leaf and a coffee cup you found on the side of the road.

4. Collapsible food and water bowls. I like these lightweight travel bowls from Bliss Paws.

5. Your dog's favorite treats as well as a day's worth of their regular food (in case your checked bags don't make it).

6. A favorite toy. I like to bring one non-squeaky toy to include in their crate during travel as well as a squeaky toy they can let loose on in the hotel. (Pictured: cotton rope tug toy from Harry Barker, rubber stick from Mungo & Maud.)

7. Grooming supplies. Pack accordingly depending on your dog's coat/brushing requirements and the sorts of activities you'll be engaging in. A pack of doggie wipes and their regular brush should suffice.

**8. Chews. **No matter how seasoned a traveler your dog may be, they'll likely be a bit stressed by the whole ordeal. Pack a few of their favorite chew sticks so they can alleviate some of that stress once you arrive at your destination (and after you've gone on a long, long walk, of course). My dog loves the no stink bully sticks from I and Love and You.

9. Water. Bring a bottle just for them and fill it up at the airport (after you go through security) or buy one there.

10. Any medication your dog may need. It's best to keep this with you rather than in a checked bag.
