MIAMI – Residents said they have had enough after dealing with mold, mildew and mushrooms growing in their Miami apartment complex with no permanent solution in sight.
Residents claim the landlord has done little to solve the problems that plague the building along the 6000 block of Northwest 12th Avenue in Liberty City.
Several apartment unit walls had water running down them, along with what residents described as fecal matter coming from the pipes.
Roaches and bugs could be seen hiding in kitchen cabinets and crawling out of giant gaps in the ceiling.
"I'm dealing with mold. If I'm not dealing with mold it's the chemicals to clean with," said resident Shannon Daniels, who lives at the complex with her elderly mother.
Daniels claims she is being evicted for refusing to pay rent and "complaining too much." Several other residents said they were withholding rent until their concerns were legitimately addressed. However even those longtime residents claim something needs to change.
Business records show the apartment building, listed under the name Miami Beverly, LLC, is owned by a man in Englewood Cliffs, New Jersey. Local 10 News contacted the owner for comment but was told to try back at a later time. Local 10 also reached out to the landlord.
The building and owner have made headlines in the past for "deplorable conditions" at numerous buildings, including the same Liberty City location.
