Sherlock has been rumoured to be returning in January 2017 - and now star Martin Freeman has indicated that this will likely be the case.

The John Watson actor gave an update on how series four is progressing, predicting that it'll hit TV screens over the winter.

"We are back filming now, and the three shows will - I imagine - be out around Christmas," he said on The Graham Norton Show, airing tomorrow.

Freeman added that fans get a little too excited when they find their way onto the set.

"There is always a heightened state of excitement, and we sometimes have to respectfully remind them that we have to be focused and it's not a live gig!"

Freeman will be seen in Captain America: Civil War when the Marvel movie hits cinemas this week, but the actor said he didn't get a chance to work with many of the stars.

He's optimistic that his character - Everett Ross - will play a bigger role in the future, though.

"I think my character will develop a bit more as I enter the Marvel world more, which seems to be happening," he commented.
