There has been lots of Super Smash Bros. for Wii U news over the past day, and the train shows no signs of slowing down. With the confirmation that 8-player Smash matches will be possible, you are probably wondering how controller distribution will work out. More specifically, you are probably wondering if there is a way to get eight GameCube controllers connected to the machine, despite the fact that the GameCube adapter only has four ports.
The solution is ultimately quite obvious: use two adapters! Online video personality ProJared recently attended a Smash Wii U event and snapped this photo of the hookup. The GameCube Controller Adapter requires two USB ports to function properly, and since there are four ports on the Wii U — two on the front, two on the back — you simply need to take command of all of them. This does mean that you'll have to unplug any other accessory that's currently occupying your USB ports. This also means that players who download Smash digitally and store it on an external hard drive would be unable to make use of eight GameCube controllers and thus must rely on other combinations.
Super Smash Bros. for Wii U arrives November 21.
