How does George R.R. Martin avoid writing? Conan has some ideas
The author is taking his sweet time finishing the next installment of "A Song of Ice and Fire." Thanks to a funny "Conan" video, we know why.
Fans waiting for George R.R. Martin to finish the sixth book in his "A Song of Ice and Fire" fantasy series often wonder why he's taking so long.
In fact, the author just missed another book deadline to complete "The Winds of Winter."
"You're disappointed, and you're not alone. My editors and publishers are disappointed, HBO is disappointed, my agents and foreign publishers and translators are disappointed, but no one could possibly be more disappointed than me," Martin wrote in his blog last month.
"That almost certainly means that no, 'The Winds of Winter' will not be published before the sixth season of 'Game of Thrones' premieres in April," he added.
Perhaps Martin is facing the same huge obstacle that haunts many writers -- procrastination.
In a hilarious video that aired Thursday on late-night show "Conan," we see what the secretive writer might be up to.
Host Conan O'Brien jokes that he hacked into Martin's home security system to spy on the writer.
The comedy skit shows an actor dressed as Martin testing out beds at a mattress store, smacking a pinata with a stick at a kid's party, destroying mailboxes with a baseball bat from a moving vehicle, walking inside a giant bubble, racing go karts and robbing liquor stores.
While we hope Martin isn't dabbling in a life of crime instead of finishing his book, it's fun to imagine the beloved writer indulging in activities worthy of reality TV.
