Flowers Are The Perfect "Thank You" for Your Staff on Administrative Professionals Day

In my opinion, few people are more deserving of a day dedicated to them than administrative professionals. They are responsible for keeping businesses running and organized, and they often are the face of a business as well. American businessman Harry F. Klemfuss recognized the importance of this position in 1952, and along with the National Secretaries Association, he created Secretaries Day, which today is known as Administrative Professionals Day. This day is the perfect time to show your appreciation with a gift, and flowers are the perfect choice for many reasons. Secretaries Day is always the Wednesday of the last week of April.

Why Choose Flowers?

I know you are probably thinking that I am biased, but flowers really are a great Secretaries Day gift for a number of reasons. Most importantly, most people like flowers. Think about it — do you know anyone who doesn’t? Floral arrangements are so versatile that there is something for everyone. For example, for the person who doesn’t like clutter, a cut flower arrangement is perfect because it provides fresh, stunning beauty for a period of time and there is no need to worry about a place to keep it permanently. For the person who likes a lasting gift and likes plants, a potted blooming plant is perfect. An added bonus of buying a floral arrangement is that everyone in the office can enjoy it — it’s like giving a gift to everyone who steps inside your doors. Now that’s bang for your buck! Speaking of bucks, did I mention there is a floral arrangement to fit every budget?

The Science Behind Flowers

Some people like to take a more scientific approach to making decisions; if this is you, you'll be happy to learn a bit more about the science behind flowers! Research has shown that flowers in the workplace reduce stress, increase concentration, and boost morale. Additionally, the scents of certain plants like lavender and roses promote feelings of happiness and tranquility. Potted plants filter pollutants from the air and help alleviate “sick building syndrome.” A gift that reduces stress, makes workers happy, is beautiful, has health benefits, and can be shared with an entire office — I guess you could say that flowers multi-task as well as a secretary does! I can’t think of a more fitting gift.

Choosing Flowers

Okay, so you have decided to take my advice and choose flowers as a gift — but you don’t know what kind. If you are choosing a cut flower arrangement, nothing says spring like tulips and daffodils. Sunflowers and daisies are bright and cheery, while flowers in shades of blue and lavender promote tranquility. Roses come in every color, smell heavenly, and are very traditional. Orchids and calla lilies are elegant additions to any office. Bird of paradise and protea flowers are unusual and exotic. If you are still confused, don’t despair — choosing the perfect arrangement for a special occasion is what we florists do best.
