Portland is a "model city for sustainable urban transit where trolleys, trams, light trail and cars run on the state's plentiful hydroelectric power," or so says public radio's Science Friday today (June 20).

In case you missed it, Portland's novel ways of getting around were featured on the weekly science program, which was taped live earlier this week at the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry.

In addition to talking about electric cars and Oregon's charging infrastructure, Science Friday host Ira Flatow talked with Jeff Allen, executive director of Drive Oregon, and Chris Hoffmann, inventor of a one-wheeled electric motorcycle called Ryno, about car sharing in Portland, other forms of electric transportation and related tech that's being made in Oregon.

Audio is not yet up online, but when it is, you can check out how Portland's reinventing how city dwellers move around on Science Friday's website.

Meanwhile, speaking of electric-based transportation options, check out a photo gallery and eight things to know about an electric bus that TriMet is testing.
