A man was found lying on the freeway Tuesday partially bound at his feet and hands and badly burned, Sgt. Rick Thurlo of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Industry Station said.
Around 2 p.m., a motorist driving on the northbound 605 Freeway just north of the 60 Freeway, spotted the man and called the California Highway Patrol, Thurlo said. Police initially reported that the man was found at the 60/605 Freeway interchange.
The man was burned all over his body, including his face and hands.
“He crawled out of the riverbed wash and crawled up onto the freeway,” Thurlo said.
The man was transported to Kaiser Permanente Medical Center in Baldwin Park and was later transferred to Los Angeles County USC Medical Center’s Burn Center, Thurlo said.
He is currently on life support.
Investigators from the sheriff’s Arson and Explosives unit are handling the investigation and as of 8 p.m. were still on scene investigating the incident.
