Utah State LB Kyler Fackrell tears ACL, out for season

Kyler Fackrell injured his knee during the second quarter of the game against Tennessee

Jim Brown-USA TODAY Sports

According to the Utah State coaching staff, linebacker Kyler Fackrell will miss the rest of the season with a torn ACL. Fackrell injured his knee during the second quarter against the 38-7 loss to the Tennessee Volunteers Sunday night. He was able to walk off the field under his own power but missed the remainder of the game.

The Aggie defense has been one of the best in the country and that is in large part to Fackrell. He was named to the second-team All-Mountain West last year as a sophomore and was named to several preseason award watch lists this year, including the Bednarik Award and Bronko Nagurski Trophy watch lists.

With Fackrell now out for the season, it will be very interesting to see how not only the defense but the team responds as a whole moving forward. Currently, linebacker Torrey Green is listed on the depth chart as Kyler's backup and may most likely take his place for the season.

Utah State will return home for week two to battle FCS opponent Idaho State. This should be an easy game for the Aggies and and opportunity to work out any problems on both sides of the ball and to plan long-term for Fackrell's absence. The game will be broadcast online on the Mountain West Network.
