Sony Further Discounts 2013 4K XBR Televisions (updated)

Sony_2013_4K_TelevisionsSony’s 2013 line of 4K XBR televisions already saw a massive price cut in late January. At CES 2014, Sony announced an entirely new fleet of 4K XBR TVs, which include the X850B (good), X900B (better), and X950B (best). The 2014 models, as you’d guess, are here to replace their predecessors, and that means that Sony needs to clear out what’s left of the old fleet. Now that we’re approaching Spring 2014, the timeframe Sony has given for the new fleet to be released, the company has decided to do another round of price cuts. Just how much? Let’s talk numbers.

Below, you can find the price history of the 2013 XBR sets which include the original MSRP, the January price cut and the most recent price cut.

Sony 4K XBR 55-inch:

  • XBR-55X900A – $4,999.99  $3,499.99  $2,999
  • XBR-55X850A – $4,499.99  $2,999.99  $2,499

Sony 4K XBR 65-inch:

  • XBR-65X900A – $6,999.99  $4,999.99 $4,499
  • XBR-65X850A – $6,499.99  $4,499.99  $3,999

As you can see, all models expect the XBR-65X900A received a $500 price cut, resulting in Sony’s 2013 fleet to start with a $2,500 price tag which is quite fantastic. I’d personally be enticed to get in on the action if I wasn’t so eagerly awaiting their 2014 line up which includes the Magnetic Fluid speakers, allowing me to skip surround sound in my small condo.

For those clicking our source link, it’s worth noting that Sony has’t update the main verbiage on their website which still indicates their 4K fleet starts at $2,999 and not the newly reduced $2,4999. However, once you click on the television size category of your choice, the most recent price cuts will reveal themselves to you.

Updated:

Sony has since adjusted the price of the 65X900A, bring it in line with others by reducing the price another $500.
