  • 3 Incredible Financial Resources for Cancer Patients

    Financial Help for Cancer Patients

For anyone who has been diagnosed with cancer, the financial costs of treatment and care can be insurmountable. In some cases, some patients aren’t able to afford their treatment even when they have health insurance.

Luckily, there are resources available which can provide the financial assistance that many cancer patients and their families desperately need. However, it is always good to review your available options before choosing the agency that is able to provide you with the best assistance.

So without any further ado, let’s have a look at some of the best options that are currently available for cancer patients and their families.

    Chronic Disease Fund

The Chronic Disease Fund is a non-profit charitable organization that is dedicated to helping people who have been diagnosed with cancer and other chronic (life-altering) medical conditions. Their primary goal is to ensure that these patients receive the medications and treatment that can save their life.

They are currently assisting patients and families all across the country. These are people who have health insurance (or a Medicare Part D plan) and meet the income qualification guidelines, but they don’t have the means to pay for their specific therapies that they need.

Chronic Disease Fund supports patients with a wide range of diseases, including multiple types of cancer, chronic asthma, multiple sclerosis, and muscular degeneration. However, they are limited in the amount of funding that they can provide for each patient, as it depends on the amount of money they are able to acquire each year via generous contributions and grants. This organization is not assisted by the federal government.

The Patient Advocate Foundation’s Colorectal Careline

The Patient Advocate Foundation (PAF) is another national non-profit organization which has been helping support Americans who have been diagnosed with cancer or other chronic illnesses. They have been working hard to ensure that more patients who are in need are getting access to the medical care and treatments which can save their lives, while also maintaining a level of financial stability life that they are fighting for.

In fact, this organization has made some real waves with their Colorectal Careline which is their national hotline set up for people who have been diagnosed with colorectal cancer.

This type of cancer is currently the second leading cause of cancer-related death, but it often does not produce any symptoms during the initial stages. So a diagnosis often comes as quite a blow to patients. PAF’s Colorectal Careline helps patients who are looking for educational resources and access to medical care.

    HealthWell Foundation

HealthWell Foundation is an independent non-profit which was formed back in 2003. Far too often, it seems like cancer patients and their families must make the choice between paying for the treatments that they so desperately need or buying basic necessities like food for their families. This is something that the HealthWell Foundation is seeking to change by providing financial assistance to patients with chronic diseases who just can no longer afford their medical payments.

Since 2004, this organization has helped more than 150,000 patients around the U.S. obtain the medications which had been out of reach even with health insurance.

The costs associated with cancer treatment can quickly become monumental, leaving little left for other basic necessities. While health insurance is able to bear the brunt of a portion of the costs, many patients are still left with burdensome financial obligations which they are unable to pay on their own. Please don’t forget that there are organizations more than willing to lend you a helping hand during your time of need.
