There’s a new contender for selfie of the year.

Brothers Michael and Neil Fletcher of Sudbury, Ontario, were hunting in the Canadian woods on Tuesday when they came across a bald eagle caught in a hunter’s trap.

“It was attached to a stake and the eagle was trying to fly up, but it only had a foot of slack in the chain,” Michael told the Sudbury Star newspaper. He then took off his hoodie and draped it over the bird while they set about releasing the trap.

“Me and my brother just kind of held onto it, and it calmed down,” he said.

Once the bird was free, they set it loose — but not before taking a selfie to capture the moment.

“Bald eagle we set free from a trap. Quick selfie before it flew away,” Michael captioned the photo, which has since gone viral on Facebook.

“I was surprised by the size, and that it’s such a beautiful bird,” he added.

“When you see the eyes close up, they’re really amazing.”
