Street food is always more a social phenomenon than a mere act of consuming food.

Maybe if one thinks of Rome, Street Food isn’t usually one of the first thing to come to mind. The Eternal city has a great culinary tradition that is consecrated in the typical trattorias and restaurants, but this new rite, a new genre of eating has made serious inroads during the last two years, allowing the capital to gain a deserved place on Italy Street Food map.

Alongside Sicily, Tuscany, Emilia-Romagna, also in Rome arose this flourishing tendency. Ideal for tourists, workers in a hurry, but also for young people who want to share food with their friends outdoor, Rome Street Food has developed its own specialities and delicacies to eat around the city. This new Street Food activities are characterized by the gastronomic offer at moderate prices, and for the rapid and informal way in which you can eat, on the road. In addition we can notice a great quality research about gourmet products. We are dealing with genuine and creative food inventions freshly prepared. Rome Street Food “Trapizzino”

The name indicates a new street food product born in Rome thanks to the genius of Stefano Callegari. These pieces of triangular pizza bianca are stuffed with typical roman delicacies coming from the ancient city home cooking tradition.
This food can be easily eaten on the move and its name as its shape mixe tramezzino and pizza. If you love pizza and good roman cooking you have absolutely to try it.
You can choose among a lot of fillings, but you must try: Polpetta al sugo (meat balls); Lingua in salsa verde (pig tongue in a green sauce), Coda alla Vaccinara (cow oxtail).
Try the trapizzino at the original “Trapizzino” at Trastevere or at 00100 chef Callegari in Ponte Milvio area (Piazzale Ponte Milvio, 13)

Rome Street Food: “Fritti”

One of the city most famous dishes, these fried snacks attract each kind of taste and are unavoidable as starter.
1) Filetti di Baccala’: located in a narrow street of the old town center, near Campo de’ Fiori. Don’t miss its specialty, long golden strips of fried baccalà;
2) Fritti di Sora Milvia (Via Cassia 4, Ponte Milvio): famous for traditional fried roman snacks as suppli, croquettes, fish and mozzarella.

Rome Street Food: “Suppli”

An honorable mention is for Rome’s favorite street food, Suppli, a fried rice ball filled with meat, tomato and mozzarella cheese, the roman version deli of sicilian Arancino. We suggest you to try Pizzarium (Via della Meloria 43): also famous for take-away pizza, its suppli are the top. With a great variety of fillings, its main feature are micro-pasta dishes in suppli undercover. From spaghetti with tomato and basil to handmade tagliatelle with beef and taleggio, inside a suppli, that’s right.

A little pizzeria-gastronomy born in the heart of Pigneto neighborhood, now it has a new dealer in Prati as well. Their speciality is the delicious filled pizza bianca, a product of the Capitoline tradition reinterpreted with inventiveness. A 72h leavening and a lot of different stuffings make this place unique.

As the name suggests, a quick gateway, point of reference for the ones who love Rome traditional cooking inside a panino. Dainties as tripe, picchiapò allesso (shredded meat prepared with carrots and onions), and the famous artichokes “alla romana”, amazing fillings for very cheap and tasty paninos.
