Chryssa from Copenhagen asked

Things to see and do in the Northern Highlands?

Hello "Tripp"ers :)

Planning a road trip from Inverness to Ullapool, then up to Durness, then all the way to Thurso and back again to Dornoch. Of course we are flexible and we love driving around so we could detour if needed.

Any ideas, suggestions on what to do and see? I would love to know all the "must sees" of the region. I understand that i need to visit the Corrieshalloch Gorge. Could you guide me on how much time we will need to spend there in order to see it and walk around there? We love walking around nature so we would love to do some walks as well.. (not too long - not too short)

Thank you :)

Why not skip going up to Thurso ( unless you plan to take ferry to Orkney Islands) and drive across to Isle of Skye. See Eilean Donan Castle in way.

Orkney is amazing! Norse history, prehistoric ruins, WW2 connections, beachcombing... . A fascinating and quaint place to visit.

Hi Chryssa!

There are so many things to do in Scotland. We were there in November 2014 and the landscape was full of beautiful autumn colours.

There are a few castles to see around Inverness - Urquhart Castle is great! It is open until 6pm April – September but closes earlier during winter months. Last entry is 1 hour before closing time. Entry is £7.90 per adult/ £4.80 per child

I am not sure about the rest of the northern part. We were based in Fyfe and did day road trips across the middle highlands and we loved it!

Cheers,
