How to Stop Videos from Auto-Playing on Facebook

Facebook recently introduced auto-playing videos on desktop and mobile, but thankfully there’s a switch to opt out. Here’s what you have to do.

On the Desktop

For Facebook on the desktop, you can turn off auto-play videos in your settings:

  1. On Facebook, head to the drop-down menu in the upper right-hand corner and go to Settings > Videos. You can also click here to go straight there.

  2. Next to the Auto-Play Videos setting, click the “On” box and change it to “Off.”

Safari users may have to try using another browser, as some people are reporting that this setting does not show up in Safari for some reason.

On Android

On Android, you can set videos to auto-play only on mobile (to save data) or disable them entirely:

  1. Open the Facebook app, open the left sidebar, and tap “App Settings.”

  2. Check the “Auto-Play Videos on Wi-FI Only” box.

On iOS

On iOS, you can disable auto-playing videos from the Facebook app’s settings:

  1. Click the “More” button in the bottom right corner, and head to Settings > Videos and Photos.

  2. Tap the Auto-Play setting to turn it off.

Now you won’t have to see any videos you don’t want to.
