official-iphone-5c-1The iPhone 5c is probably one of Apple’s iPhones that isn’t doing as hot as it should. But why not? After all it is cheaper than the iPhone 5s, shouldn’t that be a reason why customers pick it over its more expensive sibling?

Well according to our previous report, former Apple ad exec thinks otherwise. He thinks that due to the price difference being only $100, customers would rather pay that difference for a newer and more powerful phone. That makes sense, but could there be another reason why the iPhone 5c is a flop? Well Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster seems to think that iPhone cases could be the cause of it.

According to a poll conducted by Munster, it was found that out of 1,003 consumers who were polled, only 6% were planning on getting the iPhone 5c. This is actually a drop from 9% when another poll was conducted in December.

In a note Munster wrote to investors, he stated that he believed that the value in going for the iPhone 5s is being recognized by customers. After all by paying $100 extra, you not only get a phone with a metal build, but features like Touch ID and Apple’s new A7 64-bit chipset. What’s not to like, right?

Munster also notes, “We believe that the concept around colors as a unique selling point has not worked as well as it had with iPods because a significant number of smartphone users cover their smartphones with cases, which was typically not the trend for iPod owners.”  What do you guys think? Do you really believe that iPhone cases are really the reason why the iPhone 5c isn’t doing as well as it should?
