Higher Education for All

The Advanced Research Centre for Health, Environment and Space (ARCHES) was established nine years ago in Trieste (Italy) to conduct studies in a wide range of scientific areas as well as to promote suitable approaches for sustainable development.

It is universally acknowledged that education is a fundamental determinant of human development. Making the quantum leap to a sustainable development paradigm will depend heavily on higher education, especially if we facilitate the access to higher education for disadvantaged groups.

At the end of last summer, ARCHES started a program to support talented low-income students interested in pursuing advanced degrees in the area of science and engineering. The first phase of this program is devoted to India, where ARCHES has established collaborations with several academic centers in various states. Specific attention is devoted to more vulnerable groups such as young women and minorities.

“It’s an amazing organization” said Tenzin Tashi, a young Tibetan monk who is attending the Mahendra Engineering College in the Tamil Nadu state. “ARCHES is doing great work to improve human life on earth. It helped me stand up on my feet and start a successful life ...”
Member of a very poor family of Tawang (North-East India), Tenzin was educated at Sera Monastery since he was a child. Now, thanks to ARCHES’ support, he is attending the Mahendra Engineering College to become an engineer and work for the benefit of all human beings.

With the ongoing support of friends like you, we offer disadvantaged groups a better future. The goal of this campaign is to start at least five new scholarships across the country during 2014. You can make a difference by donating before July 31.

Thank you so much for giving to help more people like Tenzin transform their lives.

Gratefully,

Renato Toffanin, President & CEO
