Heading to Chicago and wondering what the coolest hotels are downtown?
Virgin Hotels Chicago is the newest addition to the downtown hotel scene and has a cool rooftop lounge.
I'd also recommend the rooftop lounge on top of the Chicago Athletic Association in the Loop. It has one of the best views of the city, Millennium Park and the lake.
The Godfrey Hotel is also nice. Don't know much about the rooms but it's only 3 years old and has the hottest lounge in the city.

The new Virgin Hotels Chicago is really nice with wonderful rooms and a great rooftop bar. It's in the Loop on Wabash.
As a local, here are a few of my "hip" favorites:
The James Chicago Hotel - great vibe, great location, and David Burke's Primehouse is downstairs for a great steak meal.
Acme Hotel Company Chicago another trendy spot, and I love the bar downstairs called The Berkshire Room for great specialty cocktails.
Wit Hotel is a cool spot, although as a local, I prefer the other places. The rooftop is really fun though and definitely worth checking out.
Another one I like is Hotel Palomar Chicago. Their restaurant Sable Kitchen & Bar is worth a stop for some yummy appetizers and a nice glass of wine/cocktail.
You also really can't go wrong with The Peninsula Chicago or Four Seasons Hotel Chicago for a splurge.
Hope this helps - have fun!

You can't go wrong with old standbys of Four Seasons Hotel Chicago and The Peninsula Chicago, but great newcomers are Thompson Chicago, Acme Hotel Company Chicago, The James Chicago Hotel, Virgin Hotels Chicago, and Public Chicago Hotel.

Just recently stayed at Sofitel Chicago Magnificent Mile on Chestnut st and would highly recommend it. Great hotel in a great location with reasonable rates.
Check out the Dana Hotel and Spaor Renaissance Blackstone Chicago Hotel. The Blackstone has a fantastic tapas restaurant in the hotel (La Mercat).

The Palmer House, Hyatt Regency Chicago, Drake Hotel, Crowne Plaza Chicago Metro Downtown, Ritz-Carlton Chicago (A Four Seasons Hotel), Sofitel Chicago Magnificent Mile, JW Marriott Chicago, etc.

Quite a few, but somehow The James Chicago Hotel tops the lists for me. But of course, if you are in the mood for a conversation on a Sunday evening chardonnay or Monday night hot chocolate latte, Sofitel Chicago Magnificent Mile takes it.
