As crazy as this makes me, since my kids just got out of school in late June, we have to start thinking about back-to-school! All across the country, kids go back to school at all different times of the year. Friends of mine in Arizona go back in July, while those of us on Long Island don’t return to school until September. Stores have back-to-school sales taking place already, and if you’re going to save money, but still have some super stylish kids when that school bell rings again, you’ve got to start your shopping early for fabulous back to school fashions.

7 mom-approved back to school fashions for girls, and boys

Florals are always popular.

It doesn’t matter if it’s winter, spring, summer, or fall. Denim never goes out of style, but too much of it isn’t a good thing. A cute little denim skirt, along with a sweet floral blouse will look perfect for little girls returning to school this school year. I love a fedora, and a pink accent, though it isn’t my top color choice, goes great with this floral shirt, and cute earrings. Your little girl doesn’t like to wear hats? No problem, headwraps/headbands are just as cute.

The perfect high cut boot can “make” an outfit.

As an adult, I own multiple pairs of high cut boots. They just look great with jeans, skirts, dresses, and basically everything. When school starts, every little girl needs a unique boot to set the year off perfectly. Completely love when a boot is matched with a super feminine skirt, and shirt, but then a little “tomboy” thrown in with a great cargo jacket. Plus, what little girl won’t adore a butterfly headband?

Turquoise, denim and sparkly sneakers, oh my!

Such a huge fan of all things blue, it doesn’t matter what shade of blue it is! Turquoise is such a great color for summer, but it also works when autumn rolls around when you match it up with a little denim. No little girl will pass up the chance to wear sparkly sneakers, especially if it’s a gym day and they still want to “dazzle” at school.

Navy blue, with a trench coat, too.

I can’t resist a kid in a trench raincoat. The flower on the trench kind of matches the white flower on the shirt, and I totally love it. Normally, it’s not something I’d get for my daughter, but navy blue makes her light blue eyes pop. Plus, a silver ballet slipper just makes this outfit. Silver, and surprisingly the yellow/green, hair clips are perfect for this outfit. Any combination of hair clips works with this navy blue ensemble. It’s the beauty of a neutral like navy blue!

Navy blue for boys.

Boys like to kill it with their back-to-school fashion, too. It’s not always about the girls showing up looking fabulous after being away all summer. The boys want to impress, or at least my boy does. He’s very into the button down shirts right now, and that’s a result of having to wear them most of the summer thanks to a broken clavicle. Having a broken collar bone makes it hard to put shirts on, and take them off! Buttons are a life saver. If the days start to get a little cooler in the morning, throw the navy blue vest on, and your little guy is set for the whole day!

This Kid Rocks with turquoise.

Royal blue is one of my favorite blues of all time. It just makes me smile, no matter what the day is like. Break it up with a great button down, plaid shirt and you’ve got the perfect first days back-to-school outfit! The shoes. OH MY GOSH, the shoes. I’d love these in my size!

Minions are always a good idea for back-to-school.

If you didn’t know the Minions movie came out this summer, this is probably not the outfit for your little guy. In our house, and many homes across the country, it’s the perfect shirt to start the new school year off. It can be worn well into the fall, when matched up with a great cargo jacket. My son loves to pop the color on his cargo jacket, and it’s light-weight, so it works for those chilly mornings without making a kid sweat as the day gets warmer.

Back to school shopping is probably my most favorite part of the kids going back. I prefer they be with me all the time, but if they have to go, I want them looking FABULOUS!

My son is a pain when it comes to wearing stuff for gym days. He hates wearing sweatpants, and wants to wear jeans as soon as the weather starts getting cooler. He’s a pest.
