This week in one of the passages, the psalmist talks about "hidden sin." Last time I checked, no one has a billboard over their head with bright lights and an arrow pointing to them: "Worry lives HERE." What does the Scripture say about how to handle this "hidden sin?

Welcome to the Winning Over Worry Bible reading week 4 summary! You made it to the last week of this challenge. Hooray! I’m covering what we read from last Friday through Friday the 31st.

Psalm 73:21-28

Every verse of this passage soaks into my soul when I read it. I especially love verse 26:

My flesh and my heart may fail,
but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.

and verse 28:

But for me it is good to be near God;

In the current language of my kids, “Same!”

Psalm 18:1-13

When we praise him who is worthy, we realize the futility of worry.

When we praise him who is worthy, we realize the futility of worry.

Psalm 18:14-29

Does anyone else get worried about confrontation or potential confrontation? This is one of the worst things I worry about. There have been many meetings when I’ve repeated this verse over and over to myself:

They confronted me in the day of my calamity,
but the LORD was my support. v. 18

Psalm 18:30-39

I can hardly express how close Psalm 18 is to my heart. Every word speaks life into my being. We worry about the path God has for us. The future seems difficult and we think, “How will we ever get through it?” But he reveals the path as we take each step. He provides the strength. He answers our prayers. As a child, I remember hearing the pastor talk about faith. It seemed like such an intangible concept, but he explained that when we get in the car to drive at night, the lights don’t shine all the way from the church to our homes. The light shines on the path as we travel and we see just a little bit more as we continue to move forward.

All the fretting in the world won’t get us from one place to another. His light will shine and make the path clear for us as we move forward in faith.

Psalm 18:40-50

So when things are shaking all around you and the world is turned upside down, then remember our God is living and active. He will not move and does not change.

Psalm 25:1-10

His paths. Not mine. Because mine are filled with worry and doubt. His paths overflow with peace and confidence. His paths. Not mine. Because mine are filled with worry and doubt. His overflow with peace and confidence.

Psalm 25:11-22

Our minds are engrained with self-preservation at all cost and worry results. Yet the psalmist from our#WinOverWorry #biblereading challenge tells us the exact opposite is true. Worry is often related to waiting on God. Yet waiting on God’s almighty hand to work in his timing is actually the best life preservation method. He alone knows when we are ready for the next mile of the journey.#onemorestep

Psalm 19:1-14

My oops!! on the schedule! I’ll correct the graphic at the first opportunity, but I realized last night that the schedule shows Psalm 19:17-23, which doesn’t exist! Yikes! Sorry about that.

But here’s what I gathered from today’s reading and I’d love to know your thoughts on this…

Verse 12 contains a line on which I meditated for a long time:

Declare me innocent from hidden faults.

Hidden faults? What does that mean? Hmmm. Could it possibly be referring to sins we commit that others don’t necessarily see? I mean, when I’m worrying, it’s not like there is a huge billboard over my head with bright lights and an arrow: “Worry lives HERE.” No, often no one but God and I know that I’m in a worry mode.

The psalmist connects this concept further, but I had to pay attention to see it. You see, much of the chapter is about our words and speech. He is declaring the importance of knowing God’s laws and keeping them. But in verse 14, he closes out the chapter by reminding us that while words and rules are important, it all begins in the heart and mind.

Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart
be acceptable in your sight,
O LORD, my rock and my redeemer.

And so it seems very fitting to close the study with this verse. May the meditations of our heart be the farthest thing from worry. May they rest on the Rock.

Today is actually the last day of the Winning Over Worry Bible reading challenge and so I wanted to include today’s reading in the conclusion. Tomorrow we begin the God Is Bigger topical Bible reading challenge for August.

What’s going on in your life that you need to remember God is bigger than? Let’s examine the power and glory of our God in the days ahead and focus on him instead!

Have a fabulous Friday!

Rachel

  1. As always, thank you for preparing this study, I spent this morning catching up, and what a wonderful way to start my weekend. So many of the verses that touched you, resonated with me also. I realized that I have spent to much time in worry lately, over many things, and not enough time in His word, which would have eased my self imposed burdens. Looking forward to the August reading!

May the many blessings you share with your readers come back to you a thousand fold.

    1. You are so very kind, Kathy! God is good. thanks for sharing what he is doing in your life!!

  2. Thanks for this post. I’m worried about my upcoming substitute assignment in a high school sign language class, but I know God will help me.

  3. For me, Rachel it’s confrontation. I’ve come out of my shell quite a bit over the last few years as far as shyness but I don’t think I will ever like confrontation since I grew up in an abusive situation. I avoid it at ALL costs. 🙂
The Apostle Paul tells Timothy in a letter he sends him “For God has not given us a Spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love and self-discipline.” 2 Timothy 1:7
I worked with a woman, we were good friends, and she would often say “What you fear, you create.” I really had to think about that the first time she said it, but after giving it some thought, I came to the conclusion that she was right! We’d better RUN to Jesus before any of those fears get a stronghold on us or we’re in the devil’s game.
    Much love, In Christ
    His daughter, Jodee

  4. Thanks Rachel I was wondering what was wrong because I looked it up and goes there is no Psalm 19:17-23 so I was confused will go back and read the correct Psalm. Worry is something I have struggled with my whole life. With this Bible challenge my worrying has been a little better. I am excited to see what next month has in store for me.

  5. Thanks Rachel. Worry is always something I have to combat. I believe it is a sin and sometimes a hidden one.
