CHINO >> Police say they’ve arrested a Pasadena man believed to be the Luger Bandit, deemed responsible for a string of Southern California robberies, after a Chase Bank here was robbed Wednesday.

The suspect was identified as Ramsin Jonathan Malek, 31.

The robber entered the Chase branch in the 7000 block of Schaefer Avenue about 9:14 a.m., demanded money and fled in a gray BMW, according to Chino police spokeswoman Michelle Van Der Linden.

Seven minutes later, responding officers spotted the luxury car, pulled the driver over and took him into custody, Van Der Linden said in a news release.

The FBI dubbed the robber the Luger Bandit because he flashed a Luger-style pistol during the seven robberies and one failed attempt attributed to him, according to the FBI.

Van Der Linden said police found a Luger handgun inside the BMW on Wednesday.

Most recently, the Luger Bandit hit a Chase Bank in San Dimas on April 9.

The string of robberies began Jan. 3, 2013, in Granada Hills. The Luger Bandit is alleged to have also robbed banks in Fontana, Mira Loma and Corona.

Malek was being held at West Valley Detention Center in Rancho Cucamonga on $100,000 bail. He is scheduled to appear Friday morning in West Valley Superior Court in Rancho Cucamonga, according to online booking records.

“Malek’s photo is not available at this time due to the ongoing investigations in which the suspect is believed to have also been involved,” Van Der Linden wrote in the news release.
