Adults will appreciate the cantina beer gardens, and there are plenty of other drink and food booths throughout the area. There is also a special kids’ area, which is designed with fun and games especially for them. San Diego has been hosting this event since 1983, so check it out starting on May 2.
2. Chocolate Festival. The Chocolate Festival takes place in the San Diego Botanic Center, and guests of all ages will appreciate the range of tastings available. There will also be other activities, including chocolate demonstrations, chocolate vendors, live music and a chocolate fountain. As an added bonus, the festival has several activities designed especially for kids. This includes fun art projects like flowerkeychains, handprint keepsakes, bamboo flutes and more. Be sure to attend this year’s event on Saturday, May 10.
3. Real Pirates. For a bit of educational fun, visit the Real Pirates exhibit at the San Diego Natural History Museum. This display is hosted by National Geographic using artifacts recovered from ships at the bottom of the ocean. In particular, Real Pirates tells the story of the Whydah, a ship that sailed almost 300 years ago. The Whydah started off as a slave ship, but it was turned into a pirate ship before it sank off Cape Cod. Now, the Real Pirates exhibit displays over 200 artifacts from the ship, including jewelry, weapons and other treasures. The exhibit will run from February 8 through September 28.
4. Block Busters. Hosted at the Reuben H. Fleet Science Center, Block Busters is a hands-on building exhibit. With 15,000 wooden blocks from KEVA, guests can use their imaginations to build all sorts of structures. These unique blocks are perfect for building and are surprisingly stable for larger structures. With so many building options, even adults can get in on the fun, making this a truly interactive experience. Block Busters is not just about building. Knocking down towers is just as important! This ongoing exhibit is open daily.

Ramona Rodeo 2014 -Ramona Outdoor Community Center

5. Ramona Rodeo. The rodeo is a three-day event with a multitude of activities for people of any age. There will be rodeo events each day, but there will also be bluegrass music, food and other activities available. On Saturday, the Ramona Parade is certain to be a family-friendly hit. This year, there will even be an area just for kids with activities and rides for younger visitors. The Ramona Rodeo takes place at the Ramona Outdoor Community Center. The 2014 event starts on Friday, May 17.
