The .CO Domain Name extension is celebrating 3 years since its rebranded launch this week.

In July 2010, .CO, the former ccTLD of Columbia, was rebranded as a gTLD. Since that time, .CO has continued to grow and to celebrate this milestone; Sedo has created a .CO market report.

In a recent blog post on the .CO blog, Lori Anne Wardi, the Vice President of the .CO registry said:

‘”Inconceivable!” I'm sure that’s what the naysayers and skeptics were saying three years ago today when we were gearing up for our big launch day. “No one needs another domain extension,” they predicted. “It’s just a typo of .com,” they mocked. “It’s only going to confuse and confound internet users,” they warned.

The haters didn’t think we could do it. But that’s okay – because we thought we could. And so did you – our industry friends, registrar partners, startup world community, and our .CO-ers around the world. You thought we could – and so we did! Thank you for believing us and cheering us on!’

Everyone at Domainbox.com would just like to take this opportunity to congratulate everyone at CO internet on their fantastic achievements.

Everyone at CO Internet has always been a pleasure to work with and we hope to continue the brilliant relationship between Domainbox.com, our Domain Resellers and the .CO registry.

Moving on to the Sedo report on the .CO marketplace, there are a large number of takeaways that all domain resellers should be thinking about.

Firstly, the sheer growth of the .CO domain name extension cannot be ignored. The TLD has now grown to over 1.5 million registrations. You should be informing your clients that this is an important domain name extensions for them to secure, as if they leave it too long, their chosen domain may be registered elsewhere!

Secondly, .CO domains are performing incredibly well in the domain name aftermarket. Sedo alone have reported $2.6 million in gross sales revenue since .CO launched. That’s a fairly impressive number.

Thirdly, .CO domains are being used! It’s a globally recognised domain name with .CO domains being used by a large number of big corporations as well as startups and small businesses.

All of these factors should be taken into account when our Domain Resellers are marking the .CO domain name extension to their clients.
