Making a well-balanced meal may soon be as easy as making a cup of coffee.
At least that's what the goal of Maestro, the Keurig for food, is hoping for after taking home first prize at this week's Edward L. Kaplan New Venture Challenge at the University of Chicago. With $50,000 from the Challenge awarded plus $20,000 from Pritzker Group Venture Capital, these students can continue to try and make their countertop cooking device a reality. The Pritzker Group also named the startup one of its inaugural fellows, which means they'll have access to their resources and mentors.
The machine, which is still in development, will allow users to place pods of vegetables, proteins, and grains into three separate chambers that will either steam, boil and/or roast the ingredients via a QR code recipe..
The New Venture Challenge is open to University of Chicago students, one of which must be a graduate student. Nine teams participated in this year's contest, all of which received some funding. The startup challenge boosts some pretty famous winners in the past including Braintree and Grubhub.
