Anyone can hang a poster from the wall, but if you're willing to put a little DIY into your home decorations, this Arduino-powered LED wall-art looks amazing, and reacts to music playing in the room with different color and effect patterns. You'll need some space to build it, but once it's done, it'll look amazing.
This DIY project comes to us from Stathack, who you may remember from his baby bottle Wi-Fi antenna build a little while ago. This one's definitely more complicated, and he runs down all of the parts you'll need over at his web site, but in short, you'll need a heavy duty picture hanger, some MDF, tons of paint, some sub flooring for the back of the piece, an Arduino Uno, a sound impact sensor (so the art can "hear" what's playing in the room), LED strips, and the wiring and accessories to put it all together.
His carved the MDF and wood into the shape of a giant Darth Vader mask that lives right above the couch, but you could just as easily draw out and make your piece whatever you choose. Just keep in mind that it'll be backlit by the LED strips when it's finished, so you'll want something that looks pretty cool with lights flashing around it.
