Greetings, Starfighter. You have been recruited by the Star League to defend the Frontier against Xur, and the Ko-dan armada.
The Last Starfighter is an all-time favorite. CG effects that were amazing in 1984, a sound track that still inspires today and the story of young Alex Rogan, loser.
Alex Rogan, played by Lance Guest, is kind of a moron. He's is totally dissatisfied with what appears to be a pretty great life. Alex has a great family, loving girlfriend and the entire community at his trailer park both adore and appreciate his self-sacrificing efforts. Alex, however, can't see past his small teenage personal problems to enjoy what he has and so broods while ruling at a stand-up video game called 'The Last Starfighter.'
Alex beats the high score and is offered the adventure of a lifetime! Turns out the coin-op game was a test, sent out across the stars by Centauri (a fantastic performance by Robert Preston,) a head hunter looking for beings with the ability to tear shit up in space. Alex has the gift and there is a war on! You'd think he'd be jazzed, finally presented with his opportunity to be more than just a handyman at his trailer park! Rogan, however, immediately demands to be taken back to the trailer park where he can mope for the rest of his days (or until Xur enslaves the Earth.) Fate, however, stands in the way and he is teamed up with Grigg, portrayed by Dan O'Herlihy, a cave-dwelling lizard engineer and pilot. Grigg helps Alex realize his potential and together they defend the Frontier from Xur and the Ko-dan armada.
There is so much to love about this film.
