‘Inside Amy Schumer’ is back and sharper than ever in season 4
Amy Schumer returns to Comedy Central tonight for the brand new season of Inside Amy Schumer. In the season 4 premiere, Schumer brings her trademark sharp, edgy humor to topics like relationship politics, actual politics, and even the Broadway smash Hamilton, all with her witty and unique spin that we love so much. Her take on the “Most Interesting Man in the World” commercials is hilarious on an initial level, and even more biting when the feminist punchline is revealed.
In fact, feminism is a topic Schumer has not shied away from with her comedy, always bringing a female slant to each joke. If Comedy Central stars like Daniel Tosh give us a smart-ass frat boy take on the world, Schumer serves as the perfect counter, coming in with a female perspective that is just as witty and sharper than a Ginsu knife.
This episode has one of the most overtly feminist sketches in Schumer history in a scene where a group of male politicians replace doctors and attempt to administer an annual pap smear. It’s hilarious—and also a little alarming considering some of the laws proposed (and sometimes passed) by real-world conservative politicians. Bonus points for House of Cards‘ Reg E. Cathey bringing his baritone delivery to the phrase “blood diapers.”
Schumer might have a destinctly feminist take on comedy, but you’d be remiss to write off this series as “chick comedy” and discount how smart is it. While there are jokes about periods, bikini waxes, and other more female-slanting topics, Inside Amy Schumer is one of the sharpest shows on Comedy Central—and this is a network that is home to my favorite show of all time, South Park. If this first episode is any indication, we can expect great things from Inside Amy Schumer this season.
