Milestones: Bike park design available for review
With the help of Evergreen Mountain Bike Alliance, DNR has submitted designs for 6.4 miles of trail in the future lower North Mountain skills area. Skills park designs are available for public review and comment under the State Environmental Policy Act (SEPA), a process that helps DNR learn about any environmental factors not previously considered, through May 5. Pending results, construction on this lower skills area will begin soon.
At the same time, designs for potential expansion with 10-to-15-miles of trail on upper North Mountain are about to begin with the help of Evergreen Mountain Bike Alliance. For our project Web page, click here.

Darrington students help shape North Mountain trails
In partnership with Evergreen Mountain Bike Alliance, DNR is working with students in a Darrington-based science, technology, engineering, and mathemtics (STEM) program, Glacier Peak Institute, to help students gain hands-on learning outside of the classroom. Through designing a short intermediate trail in the 80-acre bike park at the base of North Mountain, students will gain understanding of trail design and implementation. To see more of their valuable efforts on North Mountain, connect with us on Facebook.

Thanks to Darrington horseback riding community
DNR met with equestrians from the Darrington community in late April to discuss opportunities for horseback riding in the upper Stillaguamish Valley. A big thank you to all who attended the meeting and to USFS and Snohomish County Parks for joining us. We had valuable discussions and heard input on historical equestrian use on sections of North Mountain, access to the Whitehorse Trail, existing use of Squire Creek area roads and trails, and other topics. If you couldn’t attend the meeting and have questions or additional input you’d like to share about equestrian use near Darrington, please get in touch with us at 360-902-1604 or at DarringtonMTB@dnr.wa.gov.
