Dragon Quest XI Announced For PlayStation 4 And 3DS

by Mike Futter on Jul 28, 2015 at 02:49 AM

Update: As expected, Square Enix has announced Dragon Quest XI for release in Japan. The title is slated for PlayStation 4 and 3DS.

No confirmation of a North American release on either of these platforms has yet been offered. Additionally, the publisher announced MMO Dragon Quest X for PlayStation 4 in Japan.

During its presentation, the company name-dropped the Nintendo NX, but it has since backpedaled to say that platform is under consideration, according to a comment received by IGN.

Original Story:

Square Enix seems set to announced the next title in the long-running Dragon Quest series. A logo for Dragon Quest XI has appeared on the company’s website.

The image was uncovered by Gematsu, that also reports that a publisher presentation will also include Dragon Quest Heroes II. The event will also likely include a number of other titles in the franchise, including Monster Battle Scanner, Dragon Quest of the Stars, and Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King for 3DS.

While these are all announcements for the Japanese market, some might make their way to Western shores. We’re lagging behind on the Dragon Quest Heroes series, as the first one isn’t scheduled for arrival here until October 13.

We’ll keep an eye on the announcements and share any relevant information.

Our Take
With Square Enix moving almost the entire Dragon Quest library to iOS (and giving the franchise a new audience), the time is right for a new entry. The adorable slimes of Square Enix’s decades old franchise will likely look quite nice on current generation hardware.
