Tencent to Launch Online Stock Trading Platform

Beijing Times, 8/03/15

Yan Min, manager of Chinese internet and mobile services firm Tencent's (0700.HK) mobile finance platform Licaitong, has revealed that Tencent will soon launch an online stock exchange platform through the e-wallet function of the company's WeChat mobile messaging app. Using facial recognition software on their cellphones, users will be able to verify their identities and open personal stock exchange accounts to make purchases.

Tencent's stock exchange platform has reportedly formed partnerships with several brokers, such as China Merchants Securities. The platform will be one of the first to use facial recognition to open accounts and is currently undergoing testing. Tencent stated that it will strictly follow all regulations to ensure the security of users' online stock trading transactions.
