College Grads: Pick ELearning as a Career

networkingIt is the beginning of Spring and just around the corner there will be millions of young, hopeful college grads entering into the workforce.

If you’re soon to be finished with school it’s an exciting time, but it’s also a scary time as getting a job has become increasingly difficult recently given the limited demand and surplus of supply.

If you are graduating soon (be it this year or the next) then you may be wondering how you can apply your newly earned degree.

First, let me tell you a little secret: with exception of teachers, it’s not uncommon for people to get a job in a field different than their major.

There’s nothing wrong with this and is more than common.

As an example, I never majored in “elearning” or instructional design. My graduate degree in management has nothing to do with the field either. Yet my professional path went the way of training, course development, and all things elearning.

The ELearning Industry is Hot

So, now that you no longer need to worry about working in the same field as your major, why not have a look at the popular elearning industry?

It’s a field that is highly involved with technical advancements, offers various growth opportunities, and many specialization paths.

Oh, and it pays quite handsomely too 😉 .

You can work for universities or high-end consulting firms (which was my path) and travel the world.

You’ll be exposed to many different industries as well, not just elearning since the courses you create can relate to nearly any topic. Everything from manufacturing, chemicals, software, hardward – the choices are endless.

Heck, you don’t even have to focus on elearning but could instead participate in building live training events.

If all this sounds exciting to you then I encourage you to give elearning a try and broaden your job search.

If you have any questions you can always post them below and I’d be happy to help where I can.
