CNET Publishes Crowdsourced Sci-Fi Novel

By Dianna Dilworth

Tech news site CNET is in the process of publishing its first-ever crowdsourced science fiction novel.

The story, which is appropriately called, “Crowd Control,” includes contributions from hundreds of writers (120 known, and more anonymous). Participants shared their writing through a single Google Doc, working under a Creative Commons license. CNET took the copy and edited their own version of the story which ended up to be about 50,000 words. The site will publish the story over the next several weeks. You can read the first installment here.

The Google Doc is still online as well, where writers can take the story in a different direction.
