An approximately 60-year-old man was found dead Thursday at a homeless encampment in northern San Diego County and a sheriff’s lieutenant said the body showed signs of trauma.

Deputies were dispatched just before 1 p.m. “to the intersection of Cristianitos Road and South El Camino Real near San Clemente to investigate a report of a possibly deceased male at a nearby homeless encampment,” according to Lt. Kenneth Nelson of the San Diego Sheriff’s Department Homicide Detail.

“When deputies arrived they located the encampment in a field near the intersection,” he said. “At the encampment they discovered a deceased male adult, approximately 60 years of age, who had obvious signs of trauma to his upper body.”

The county medical examiner’s officer will conduct an autopsy to determine the man’s cause of death, Nelson said.

Detectives from the sheriff’s Homicide Detail and North Coastal Station were investigating the fatality.
