The 28th Palm Springs International Film Festival will run January 5-16 next year with the Awards Gala set for Monday, January 2, at the Palm Springs Convention Center. This past year honored Cate Blanchett, Bryan Cranston, Matt Damon, Johnny Depp, Michael Fassbender, Brie Larson, Rooney Mara, Tom McCarthy, Saoirse Ronan, Alicia Vikander and the cast of The Big Short. The festival will begin on with an Opening Night screening followed by a reception at the Palm Springs Art Museum. Closing Night will be Sunday, January 15, with the Best of the Fest screenings on Monday, January 16. The Festival will begin accepting film submissions on July 1.
Gravitas Ventures has acquired U.S. distribution rights to an independent thriller from director Madeline Puzzo and Front Galley Productions LLC called Cardinal Matter. The film is about a young man who arrives in a small Wyoming town looking to connect with his cousin and then finds out he is wrapped up in criminal activity and has to outrun both the law and a hitman while trying to clear his own name. The film stars Zac Titus, Kelsey Crane, Matthew Stannah, Tim Parrish, and Olivia Jordan. Gravitas’ Senior Director of Acquisitions, Dan Fisher, negotiated the deal with Todd Slater from Blue Fox Entertainment at the 2016 Cannes Film Festival. The film was produced by Mark Christian, Jordan DiRisio and Emily Westfield. Gravitas is planning an On Demand release for July 8, 2016.
