The Power of Setting Your Intention blog by Jo James

Ok, here we go! Quarter 2 is here. Spring is in the air, change is everywhere, time to see those flowers from the seeds you’ve been sowing. Are you ready?

What do you want to achieve over the next three months?  Do you have a specific goal in mind you want to achieve? Have you told anyone else about it?

Does that sound exciting to you or terrifying?

You’ve probably heard before that sharing your goals with someone you know well who supports you, your coach, or your goal buddy, works wonders.  My Mastermind Groups achieve more by setting clear goals each month, with all in the group knowing about each others’ goals.  I love it when they surprise themselves with just how much they’ve achieved when I call them for their Accountability Power Hour.

Some of their goals?  Laura Felicity wanted to add a new design element to her collection to help people create their beautiful home. So, over the last three months, Q1, she designed, planned and produced a new product range and is very excited to launch her new Window Blinds for Spring. Have a look here, they’re so pretty.

Vicki’s intention was to help more people understand the power of print. So she has written, set up and sent out newsletters to her contacts and consistently receives new leads, and gains new business each and every month.  Helping businesses produce marketing materials with perfect printing at her company Alphaset, you can sign up at the top of her home page here, to get great monthly tips to see how you can make an impact with the power of print to promote and grow your business.

So as your Monday morning coach, I’d like to encourage you to set your goals, and tell me, or someone else about them. To help you get more results too.

Maybe you’re put off by the words, setting a goal?

Reframe it to…. setting your intention.

Does that feel different?

Set your intention.  It creates direction and drive. And the magic happens 🙂

Some of my clients when I first meet them aren’t clear on their goals, or intention.

So, listen to yourself when you’re setting your goals, setting your intention.

Are you first thinking of the things you don’t want to do?!  Are you thinking of the obstacles that might stand in the way?  Are you thinking of the whole list of plans and processes that need to be in place first, before you tell anyone about what you really want to do?

Stop!

Breathe.

Allow yourself to maybe not know all the answers, yet!

I remember when I started AmberLife seven years ago today, after launching it on April 1st 2009 during the uncertain times in the financial crisis we had.  Yes it was a risk. Yes it was difficult setting up a new business then, and wow, there were many ups and downs and challenges along the way as we saw so many businesses close, put a freeze on spending and business morale was down.

But, I clearly knew what I wanted to do. I didn’t have all the answers then, it was a totally new direction for me, after owning a recruitment business in the City for 10 years, yet here I was, wanting to set up a new business offering sales, marketing and mindset strategies to help business owners succeed.

What was I thinking?!

But I kept meeting so many business owners who are brilliant at what they do, but not making the money they needed, had no sales process in place, were overwhelmed with all the marketing choices, or simply not enjoying running a business as much as they thought they would!

I listened to them, and I felt so strongly that my skills and experience could help them help them make the changes they needed to achieve so much more, to stay in business, and grow their business, so I had to do it.  I wanted to help them get ‘un-stuck’ as fast as possible and see them succeed. That’s my ‘why’. That was my driver, and still is. So, I knew I had to persevere through my own challenges, and with my ‘why’ singing loudly in my ears and in my heart, seven years later, I’m still helping owners grow their business and loving it!

Do you need to remember your why?

If you’re stuck in the procrastination cycle, tune into that main driver of ‘why’ you set your business up in the first place.

Why are you doing what you do now?

Take time now to remember your brilliant skills and talents.  Who did you want to help? Why do you want to help them?

Now, let’s put it all together for good use!

Feeling good?  Feeling motivated? Awesome!

Now’s a good time to write down your goals for this quarter.
