Game Changer: Facebook Jumps Into Ecommerce with Facebook Shops!

“People don’t go to Facebook to shop…” that has been the mantra for years. When I wrote the book “Kick Ass Social Commerce for Epreneurs” (http://amzn.to/1YIaQaq) there was a silent chorus of no-believers. And that was part of the reason I wrote it the way I did. Because up to now social was basically NOT the shopping stop for consumers.

Pinterest has somewhat cracked the code a little with its Buyable Pins that allow people to find and buy your products on Pinterest. However they’re only available to a select group of retail partners and U.S. merchants with Pinterest business accounts.

Today that thinking could change and change rapidly. Facebook has been quietly working to finally make good on the comment that it’s founder Mark Zuckerberg made way back in 2011 when he said… “If I had to guess, social commerce is next to blow up.”

They quietly rolled out the private beta to accounts and said not a single word to anyone of substance. A quick look on Google tonight showed no posts about it at all. Were it not for a buddy of mine, I would have not even realized it myself. But now the word is out and I bet within 48 hours of this post, EVERYONE will be buzzing. The function and ability is spot on and rivals anything out there that sites like Shopify have for its startup store site.

And the best part… It’s FREE!!! Facebook does not take any of the sales proceeds. They have partnered with Stripe as its only payment option right now, so you will pay the payment processing fees to Stripe. But no fees to Facebook at all whatsoever. This is a mind-boggling development. And is on the level of a Beyonce album as far as secrecy. AMAZING….watch this video of me setting up a Facebook Shop and product from scratch in just a few minutes.

I bet you a million bucks, 1 year from now people will NO LONGER say... “People don’t go to Facebook to shop…” ;-)
