Heterometrus spinifer
Also known as the Giant Forest Scorpion. A large species with adults growing up to near 5". This one was an unusual blue green colour as usually black with a greenish glaze to the exoskeleton.
Found on the trail in deep forest in the Tanjung Puting National park in southern Borneo.
This particular individual had run foul of swarming ants and was extremely agitated. My policy is to not interfere with natural occurrences like this but I was most relieved to see this scorpion scuttle up a tree and appear relatively unharmed from its ant experience.

Thank you Jim. This guy looked like a huge tank in the middle of a battlefield. The ants were being very aggressive and I was amazed to see the scorpion walk away! It sure wasn't happy!!
From the ant's point of view, this guy is a T-Rex...I am impressed as well, nice capture Triggs!
Thank you Polilla, Neil and Antonio. Really appreciate the feed back.

Nice one, triggs. What an amazing creature. A much-deserved SOTD, so congratulations to you. And happy to hear it survived its ant encounter.

My pleasure Polilla. I have never seen one this colour before either. Be interesting to know if it's a sub or something.
