Members of Radiohead are currently in the studio working on a new album. Recently, guitarist Jonny Greenwood gave a brief progress report to Dutch music website 3voor12. (Note: The interview actually took place last month, but only now has come to the attention of Radiohead fans.)
Greenwood admitted that because the band didn’t do anything together for an extended period of time, it took “a lot of time” for them to get into the swing of things. Currently, he and frontman Thom Yorke are recording together in intervals. “This afternoon, Thom and I will work on a song we started yesterday, and see what it will lead to,” he explained.

The interview also may have provided us with our first known album track. Greenwood seemingly confirmed the band is working on “Lift”, a song which dates back to 1996. He likened its origins to “Nude”, which appeared on 2007’s In Rainbows despite being first worked on 10 years prior.
“What people don’t know is that there’s a very old song on each album, like ‘Nude’ on In Rainbows. We never found the right arrangement for that, until then. ‘Lift’ is just like that. When the idea is right, it stays right. It doesn’t really matter in which form.”
Radiohead’s as-yet-untitled ninth LP serves as the follow-up to 2011’s The King of Limbs. Below, watch Radiohead perform an early version of “Lift” live at Pinkpop Festival in 1996.
