Measuring Gears

Measuring Gears

Gears are an important part of everyone's day to day life. For most of us that use a car or bicycle to get to work it is readily apparent at what the benefits of gears are. For a quick overview on gears and how they work, check out this post by Chris Woodford.

Measuring Gears

There are a great deal more GD&T callouts for gears than I am showing. Gears checking demands additional metrology considerations that go beyond the ordinary.

For example to accommodate the variety of gear scenarios you will come across, a list of the modules that are available is shown in the image on the left.  These modules are  in addition to the base gear checking package.

In this short post, there is no way I can cover all the topics you may uncover when checking gears. What I can tell you is we have a dedicated line of machines specifically designed to measure gears.

Please contact us more information how you can get a gear checker for your metrology department.
