'Dark Matter' season 2 spoilers: another explosive finale is in store

(Facebook / Dark Matter)Season 2 of "Dark Matter" promises to be more intense than the previous season.

Filming for the 13 episodes of the upcoming season 2 of "Dark Matter" wrapped up on May 6. Titles of the episodes have all been revealed, and those who were shocked with Six's betrayal in season 1 should brace themselves for a bigger ender this season.

That is what showrunner Joseph Mallozi said fresh from the freshmen season's success. He revealed, "I said very early on that I had mapped out this five-year game plan. The season two finale will be an even bigger 'holy s**t' than season one."

He also shared that season 1 was centered on the characters' backstories and discovering who they are. In season 2, "we blow the doors off, do some world building, the past comes back to haunt and at the same time, the characters wrap up their exploration of their respective backstories."

While a mole among the team has always been a possibility, it was still a shock to many to find out that Six has been working with the Galactic Authority. His story was presented in such a way that people remember him as a member of "The Insurrection," only to find out later on that the story arc was planted well leading to a shocking finale.

Questions about his real backstory still remain and it is one of the things that fans would love to find out in season 2. Mallozi said, "What happened in that moment between the break is going to be part of the big reveal in hopefully episode 201."

Although Six was the only one revealed to be the traitor, there is still much mystery to why they were brought together on Raza. There are other subplots left open, but all of these have been part of a planned narration.

Will season 2 unmask more traitors? Find out when the "Dark Matter" returns on July 1, 10 p.m., on Syfy.
