preview for Colin Morgan and Charlotte Spencer talk new series 'The Living And The Dead'

Colin Morgan has promised that his fans will be unsettled by the "very eerie" new series The Living and the Dead.

"It's got a very deep undercurrent in terms of how dark it will go," said Morgan, who plays troubled Nathan Appleby in the spooky thriller.

The six-part series was devised by Life on Mars co-creator Ashley Pharoah, who told Digital Spy that a "real spark and frisson" convinced him to cast Morgan and co-star Charlotte Spencer (Glue) in the lead roles.

Morgan also spoke about the fans who have followed him since Merlin launched way back in 2008.

"Having that support, having that wave beneath you absolutely helps, because ultimately you're telling stories for [those] people and you want them to enjoy it," he said.

"You want them to love what you do - and sometimes, some days, if you're finding it tough, the thought of doing it for [those] people really pulls you through."

The Living and the Dead will launch all six episodes on BBC iPlayer this Friday (June 17), with the series debuting on BBC One on Tuesday, June 28.
