Dallas Irrigation Company Engages Texas Leaders in Water Conservation

GARLAND, Texas - May 7, 2015 - PRLog -- Within 24 hours of the Board vote that elected Malcolm S. Morris Chairman of Weathermatic, Morris and Weathermatic CEO Mike Mason met with some of Texas’ most influential leaders to discuss the state’s water crisis. Morris and Mason attended the grand opening of the new Texas Public Policy Foundation headquarters in Austin where Governor Greg Abbott and Attorney General Ken Paxton addressed an exclusive private luncheon. Mike Mason dined with Susan Combs, former Ag Commissioner who has been immersed in Texas’ Water issues. After introducing Mason to several of Texas’ real estate leaders, Morris, a Visionary of the Texas Public Policy Foundation set a meeting with TPPF expert on Environmental Policy, Kathleen White. Follow-up meetings are being arranged for TPPF to learn more about Weathermatic’s solutions to Texas water shortages.

Morris, a well-known figure when it comes to politics and water, testified before Congress and worked tirelessly on the passage of the Sen. Paul Simon Water for the Poor Act of 2005. More recently Morris worked with a coalition to achieve passage of the Water for the World Act, signed into law by President Obama in 2014. Garland, Texas-based Weathermatic is a global forerunner in smart irrigation technology and services, working with many U.S. Fortune 500 companies to set and achieve their water sustainability goals. Since joining the Board of Weathermatic, Morris has focused his political acumen on advocating for more efficient water management in his home state.

Morris and Mason are working with Texas politicians and real estate leaders to encourage large-scale adoption of smart irrigation technology throughout the state, in order to reduce water waste. In Texas, up to 70% of residential and commercial water use goes to landscape irrigation and, according to the EPA, as much as 50% of that water is wasted due to inefficient watering systems and practices. “The water savings from a large-scale adoption of certain smart irrigation systems and practices would be sufficient to replenish the equivalent of one Lake Travis every six months, relieving Texas’ desperate need for new reservoirs” Morris stated.

Weathermatic’s SmartLine controller and weather station bundle has received the EPA WaterSense label, verifying that the products have been certified by an independent, third-party to be at least 20 percent more water efficient than average products in the same category. The prestigious WaterSense label indicates products that realize water savings on a national level and provide measurable water savings results. An in-depth study of sites utilizing Weathermatic’s smart irrigation technology and water management services has shown 1,000 sites reducing their benchmark water usage by an average of 50 percent.
